And a lot of the other family members of theirs have light hair and light/dark eyes. I know i am not adopted but its stunning and people ask me why i look so different from my parents. Please answer :D-You already answered the question. You have family that have the genetic traits that you now share. Just because your parents are blonde/blue-eyed, it does not mean that they only carry those genes.......
Both of my parents are blonde with blue eyes and so is my little brother, But i have black hair and brown eyes? How is that even possible? The closest person to them with these traits are her father (with blue eyes and black hair) and his grandpa.. And a lot of the other family members of theirs have light hair and light/dark eyes. I know i am not adopted but it's stunning and people ask me why i look so different from my parents. Please answer :D

You already answered the question.

You have family that have the genetic traits that you now share. Just because your parents are blonde/blue-eyed, it does not mean that they only carry those genes. They were passed the other genes as well.

And since you get half genes from the father and the other half from the mother *and* that those genes are random as to which ones get passed along...one of them passed along the black/brown-eyed genes.

And since Blonde/Blue-eye is a recessive gene, it means that both parents had to pass along those gene...as they did to your brother. You got at least one parent passing along the black/brown genes and so it dominated.

If you were to have children with a blonde/blue person, there is a chance that you'll pass on the blonde/blue genes and have a blonde/blue-eyed child. There is also a chance that you'll pass on the black/brown.

Even more interesting is the possibility that you can have the reverse happen. If you meet someone like you, born of blonde/blue parents, and you both pass along the blonde/blue genes...your child can be blonde/blue-eyed while the both of you are dark haired/eyed.

Ain't genetics fun?

It is actually possible for genetics to work this way with eye color, at least. Recessive traits like brown eyes can be hidden under dominant traits like blue eyes for generations upon generations and then pop up. Especailly because eye color is made up of multiple layers of the eye. I would imagine the same is possible with hair color, as well.

Also, are you sure your father really is your father? I must admit, even understanding that it's possible begs the question because of how rare that seems.

The traits that your parents have are the dominant traits of your faimly you might just be the special one :) they have your traits in their DNA but the other traits are stronger then yours so they take over... but when combined it is possible for you to be the way you are :)

It has to do with the whole dominant, recessive genes. So someone you know of had dark hair, so they passed the recessive gene which is any other color hair wise except for the dark colors. So you got the dominant gene which is the dark colors. It all has to do with your family genetics.
