This question cannot be answered without an explanation of how you are increasing its mass. "We added washers" is not a good enough explanation. I know you added material...that isn't the point. The deal is, what you do to the EXISTING MOTION when attempting to increase the mass?

I.e. are you first bringing it to a halt, and then adding material and then restoring its motion (hint: you must specify details); or are you throwing a glob of clay at it while in motion, and observing the subsequent post-collision?
