096 .. .. ........
An object is located 16.0 cm to the left of a diverging lens having a focal length f = -30.0 cm. Use the correct sign convention for all numerical answers.
(a) Where is the image located? (Enter a negative distance if the image is to the left of the lens.)
(b) Determine the magnification of the image.

-
using the equ. 1/f = 1/u +1/v with real as positive convention.

a) 1/-30 = 1/+16 + 1/v .. (diverging lens has unreal focal points .. f= -30cm)
. 1/v = - 0.096 .. .. .. ►v = (-) 10.43 cm
(neg. sign indicating a virtual image)(image is located on the same side as object)

b) mag. = image dist. / object dist. = 10.43cm / 16.0cm .. .. ►m = 0.65
