Physics Gravity Question

Can anyone explain it a little better than that?-Way too much info at this website,http://en.wikipedia.......
Hi, I'm doing a lab writeup on the gravitational constant, g, 9.8m/s^2.
Here's the question:
Investigate how the value of g varies around the world. For example, how does altitude affect the value of g? What other factors cause this acceleration to vary at different locations? How much can g vary at a location in the mountains compared to at sea level?

All I can find on the net is that Altitude changes g very little, and that g only varies by 0.01% in gravitational force as one moves up in altitude from the equator.

Can anyone explain it a little better than that?

Way too much info at this website, but it does talk a bit about changes in altitude & latitude
