How did s/he solve this? by vector addition? this is a free body diagram problem?-find the north/south and east/west components for each force,total magnitude of force = sqrt[200^2+100^2] = 223.theta = arctan(1/2) = 26.......
I'm trying to practice for my test but this problem is fuzzy for me.Three people are playing with a ball. Force 1= 400 N [N], Force 2= 300N [S] and force 3= 200 N [E]. What is the unbalanced force on the ball?
the answer is 224 N [N 63 degrees E]
How did s/he solve this? by vector addition? this is a free body diagram problem?

find the north/south and east/west components for each force, then add components to get the resultant force

force 1 = 400 N
force 2 = 300S
force 3 = 200 E

total north/south = 100N north
total east/west = 200N east

total magnitude of force = sqrt[200^2+100^2] = 223.6N

angle described by tan(theta) = north component/east component = 100/200

theta = arctan(1/2) = 26.6 deg north of the positive x axis, or 63.4 degrees east of the north axis
