What is the difference between spacetime & space and time

replace them by the word pacha and you willnot be confused. ============================= There is no absolute space and absolute time ,but there is an absolute event which is pacha. similar to the absolute value of the speed of light.......
Recently bought a few books aimed at non physicists to explain string theory and such.

I was just wondering what the difference between the two is?

-
At the out set the word space time is a misnomer.

I thought of giving a separate name for that word.

On going through the website regarding this, to my astonishment, it is there already. Incas regarded space and time as a single concept, named pacha . And that give me strength that I have understood what space-time is.

Whenever we read the sentence that space-time is mathematical model that combines space and time into a single continuum, our mind does not comprehend that space-time as single continuum and very often we switch over to our normal understanding that space and time are separate entities and view every thing about space-time as separate continuums.

It is the reason I thought of giving a separate name to space time but it is already there.
====================================
To avoid the confusion we shall use the word pacha for space time.

Speed of light is independent of the observer.

Similarly pacha is independent of the observers.

An event is represented by a point in pacha.

The same event will differ from observer to observer in different frames of references.

The reason is that
Time moves slow with moving observer.

But who is moving is a relative term.
For each one the other one is moving and hence for every one will say that time moves slow for a moving observer.

Thus different observers will speak of different space and different time.
But all will coincide in one thing that there is an event which is the same for all.
The events are represented in pacha.

Now where ever you have a word space-time , replace them by the word pacha and you will not be confused.
=============================
There is no absolute space and absolute time ,but there is an absolute event which is pacha. similar to the absolute value of the speed of light.
