I got lost in chemistry class because I simply don't know the conversions and what a milliliter is to a liter. Other than that I'm starting to love chemistry!

Milli is 1/1,000th. of a litre. It is also a (solid) volume of 1cc (cubic centimetre).
Look, if you study up the metric units, you will find they are SO easy to work with! Ease of calculation means even more enjoyable chemistry and physics!
Milli is 1/1,000th.
Centi is 1/100th. (cents in 1 dollar, centimetres in 1 metre, etc.).
Deci is 1/10th. (DECImal currency, meaning units of 10).
Google all the units, learn them, you will never look back!

A really good one, 1 litre of water is 1,000cc. or ml., and has a mass of 1kilogram (1,000 grams).
Density of water is 1g/cc., and water's density is the yardstick by which all material densities are compared.
