I think that is is transverse becasue the people are stationary but they are just moving up and down.

The second part of this question is: Is it possible to change the type of wave? How might the people move to accomplish this?
I can't think of a way that people can move longitudinally

thanks!

Transverse.
They would have to run left and right in unison.
