.???Velocity = sqrt(2gh) = 31.3m/sec.......
1) A parachutist drops from a plane and falls 50 m without friction. When the parachute opens, he declerates atr 2.0 m/s^2. He reaches the ground with a velocity of -3.0 m/s. How long was the parachutist in the air?

Show step by step, thanks!

The question appears to be saying the parachutist reaches the ground while still decelerating..???
Velocity = sqrt(2gh) = 31.3m/sec.
Time to reach velocity = (v/g) = 31.3/9.8, = 3.194 secs.
Change in velocity = (31.3 - 3) = 28.3m/sec.
Time to slow down = (v/a) = 28.3/2, = 14.15 secs.
Time in air = (14.15 + 3.194) = 17.344 secs.
