3 = 13.V = 3.......
A tetherball is on a 2.1 m string that makes an angle of 44° with the vertical pole it is attached to as it
moves around the pole in a horizontal plane. If the mass of the ball is 1.3 kg, what is the ball’s speed?

thanks!

Fc = mV²/R
R = 2.1(sin 44) = 1.45878

let T = tension in tether
Tx = horizontal component of T = Tsin 44°
Ty = vertical component of T = Tcos 44°
Ty = mg = 1.3(9.8) = 12.7 N
T = Ty/cos 44° = 17.66 N
Tx = 17.66(sin 44°) = 12.3 N

mV²/R = Tx = 1.3V²/1.459 = 12.3
V² = 12.3(1.459)/1.3 = 13.764
V = 3.7 m/s ANS
