Is a animal prey what it eats or what eats it

my friend and i have an argument. i say an animal's prey is what it eats but she thinks its the other way around

Predator is what eats. Prey is what is eaten.

You're right. And animal's prey is what it eats. Prey is any animal that's hunted with the intention of consumption. XD

the prey is like the hunter and the animal that's being preyed on is the hunted

it could be both

prey as a noun ...ex. Mice are my cats favorite prey...

prey as a verb ...ex. My cat preys on mice....
