Jedi Jan say: Probably because there is no immediate or forthcoming need. Seems to me every time Science tries to improve on what Nature provides there is some terrible mess that cannot be cleared up anywhere near as easily.

For example, Science thought it was a mastermind move when they introduced the cane toad (from South AmericaI believe) to eat the cane beetles that proliferated in the sugar cane in North Queensland, Australia. The cane toads went on to spread over much of Queensland, into the rainforest habitats, and fouled water supplies which the native frogs relied on and had no resistance to. So, native frogs in decline and the cane toads continued to spread interstate. Even Kakadu in Northern Territory has been overrun with the toads now. There are no known predators of the cane toads; and anything that tries dies soon after.

Not to say that Science does not come up with some wonderful solutions, but the example of the cane toad vermin in Australia is part of the reason why there are (and should not be) no swift moves to eradicate anything.

Rid all the spiders, humans would be up to their ankles in insects.
If not for a few of my 8 legged little buddies, the crickets would eat me alive.

MARK say: “Why haven't scientists come up with a way to kill all spiders on earth (sic) yet?”
Because it is not something we want to do. Far too often we have meddled in ecosystems with disastrous results. There is no reason to kill spiders.

“I thought science aims to benifit (sic) us?”
