Hey
I've been looking for information for a few days now on which nebula the sun was formed in purely out of interest but as of yet i have found nothing on the precursor nebula.

Some forums i have seen have caused the nebula the solar nebula but is this true?

Yeah, the nebula is long gone, but it might have been somewhere in this region surrounding the galaxy (the sun has a circular path around the galaxy). But it probably contained 1000 - 5000 proto-stars, some/many which may have grown to massive sizes, exploding as a supernova. We know that one exploded near to the Proto-solar system and spiked our system with exotic elements.
And, surprisingly, even after all this time, It may be possible to track down a few (say, 50) of the suns siblings (born from the same dust cloud)

The Sun was born about 4.5 billion years ago, most likely the birth nebula has since dissipated. The Sun may have been expelled from the nebula after it was born, so if the nebula still exists we have no idea where it is.

After 4.5 billion years and dozens of trips around the galaxy we have no way of identifying the nebula from which we came, In fact, it probably dispersed billions of years ago.
