Tides!!! Tides like you wouldn't believe.

At high tide, New York would be under water. Maybe even its tallest buildings.

And the surfing would be great.

Only downer would be if the oceans froze over. That has happened before where Earth is at right now. The last Ice Earth was a few hundred million years ago.

Deep-sea life might survive. The tides might even provide some extra energy.

Overall, it's a bad idea. Or a great Evil Plan. Depends on whether you're good or evil. A normal supervillain tries to rob megabanks or blackmail countries with nuclear weapons, but moving the Earth into orbit around Jupiter would show some real style.

Well, with Jupiter's huge magetic field, and the amount of radiation being generated and funneled through it... I would say life wouldn't exist here.

And.... it'd be cold, too. *really* cold.

-
Then life as we know it would be fried beyond comprehension by radiation (Quantum is correct).

-
It would be pretty frozen wasteland.

-
Then we would see Jupiter in the night sky, that would be awesome.
