Flat Earth Conspiratories: Why the Tide

you want to stop NASA from building a launch pad right next to your house - or at least annoy them sufficiently so that they double the amount of the indemnity offer); you do not need to convince the planet that the Earth is flat, you only need to convince a judge that the construction should be delayed long enough for this to be studied. There are also those who use these fake arguments (Lunar Landing Hoax hoax, the Birth certificate hoax, a.k.......

I am certain that a good debater would find arguments as to why tides are possible on a flat Earth. The arguments may not hold out when trying to get a paper published in a peer-reviewed journal, but they may hold out long enough for some government procedure to decide on someone's appeal (e.g., you want to stop NASA from building a launch pad right next to your house - or at least annoy them sufficiently so that they double the amount of the indemnity offer); you do not need to convince the planet that the Earth is flat, you only need to convince a judge that the construction should be delayed long enough for "this" to be studied.

There are also those who use these fake arguments (Lunar Landing Hoax hoax, the Birth certificate hoax, a.k.a. Donald's lack of trumps) just to establish sufficient doubt in weaker minds.

Finally (since we are talking about tides), remember that Galileo himself got in trouble with tides: when asked by the Church (during his trial) to offer some evidence that Earth was moving around the Sun (and not the other way around), Galileo offered the tides as "evidence" of Earth going "around" an orbit (the sloshing being due to us rounding the curve, so to speak). Galileo lost (of course).

If I were a flat-earther, I would say the tide comes because the earth's movement is not in a perfect line upward, and tides are like moving along with a glass and seeing water slosh because our movement is not perfect.

Of course, the retort is that "down" does not change measurably over the 12+ hour , so the earth can't be "sloshing" as it moves. But then, all the other arguments against flat-earth etc (pendulum precession, shadow of the earth during a lunar eclipse, pictures from space, actual measurements of gravity and relativity!) get ignored by people with an agenda.

there's a geyser in Yellowstone Park called "Old Faithful", because it erupts with a column of water every 90 minutes or so. Isnt it possible there is a correlation between 6 hr tides and 90 minute eruptions? A geyser is a regular event involving water that has no reliance on gravity or "tidal forces". The various geological forces of the earth can cause MANY different fluid phenomenon

Ordinary 'sloshing' goes back and forth. The tides do not go back and forth. The tidal bulges travel continuously from east to west, relative to the land. This is easily measured using a series of buoys.

Any model of Earth as an accelerating flat plate would fail to explain that result.

This is the Science section. Flat earthers don't hang out here. In fact, I'm not even convinced they really exist to begin with. You're probably just getting trolled with any answers claiming to come from them.

The same people who believe the earth is flat also think that no one landed on the earth, that the USA has a earthquake making machine, etc.

They are crazy.
