Just wondering. I love the idea of aliens ;)

It would depend on the species of alien. The extremely advanced beings that communicate with telepathy would be the most loving, peaceful, intelligent, entities you could possibly imagine. Think about it, if we had telepathy we would instantly know who was evil, crazy, stupid, etc., and they would be bred out of existence leaving only the peaceful and intelligent. Also, this would also greatly advance their intelligence because over time telepathy would replace words, and i don't know if you know anything about Zen Buddhism, but one of the things that it teaches is words are bad, because they cause attachment, and lose essence for what they words actually represents. IE, you look at a tree, you just think "tree", you don't think about what it actually is, same thing with animals, objects, even the ground, they would have an incredible understanding of everything around them. So some would truly be greatest entities you could imagine.
However, there would also be evil entities. If beings come to earth, and they are speaking and they don't use telepathy, they are probably subject to the same nature as humanity.
As far as appearance, if you mean just the ones through out the universe, they could vary from literally any shape, size, color, etc. you could imagine. But the advanced ones that some have said have come to earth are usually 3 different types. There are the Greys, the Reptilians, and the Nordics. I believe in the Greys, not sure about the other ones. Haha, some say the Reptilians are on earth right now, and are shape shifters posing as some of our world leaders (also they might be the Nordics, appearing human like to keep us from freaking out). Lol, not sure if i believe that, but its interesting.

It would definately depend on their location in the universe. For example if they were to inhabit a planet with cold temperatures they would have to have characteristics to help them fend of the cold. As for friendlyness that would be up to thier customs, just as people on earth have different views based on political or religious beliefs.
