When does an eclipse occur

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-04-09] [Hit: ]
if S-M-E it is a lunar eclipse-for a lunar- when the earth moves between the moon and the sun.for a solar- when the moon moves between the earth and the sun.......
When one celestial body passes into the shadow of another. Simple thinking suggests that a third body must be present to create the light (otherwise how would you determine the shadow?) and that the three objects must be in alignment.

Solar Eclipse: Solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is positioned between the Sun and the Earth. The Moon partially or fully blocks the light coming from the Sun. It only happens during a New Moon.

Lunar Eclipse: Lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth is positioned between the Sun and Moon; so the Moon passed behind the Earth. The Earth blocks the Sun's light from striking the Moon. This can occur only when the Sun, Earth, and Moon are aligned exactly, or very closely so, with the Earth in the middle. Hence, a lunar eclipse can only occur the night of a full moon.

WHen the earth, moon ans sun are all lined up.
Usually they are a bit out of kilter because the earth is tilted at 23 degrees, but sometimes they are all in a straight line
If S-E-M, it is a solar eclipse, if S-M-E it is a lunar eclipse

It depends if it is a lunar or solar eclipse
