Autumn began on September 1st. That is the correct date. Meteorologists use that date. Today is an astronomical event, the 'equinox' is when the sun is right over the equator - and so each hemisphere has approx the same number of hours of sunlight. That it happens to come in autumn (for us in the northern hemisphere) we call it the 'autumnal equinox' while those in the southern hemisphere are experiencing the opposite - the spring equinox.
People in the US get things mixed up because our media is ill informed. So, the average person gets told false information.. As for being happy it is (3 weeks into fall) cooling off ? Surely ! Although it is still HOT here. We don't get the seasonal changes like the north part of US gets. 106 degrees.. isn't 'autumn-like' lol
