Invisible radiation question

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 13-03-03] [Hit: ]
But it really isnt invisible ... its there.......

Visible light (red orange yellow green blue indigo violet)

Ultra violet (the UV light from the Sun that causes sun tans and skin cancer, what you expose yourself to deliberately in a tanning salon).

X-rays (this is the same stuff a radiologist or your dentist will use to take a picture of the inside of your body).

Gamma rays (this is very dangrous radiation and can cause nasty mutations, contrary to the comic books it doesn't make you turn green and grow big muscles when you get angry, it just makes cancerous tumours grow all over your body until you die. Ironically high doses of x-rays or gamma rays in tightly focused beams are used in medicine to zap tumours, so the same radiation that causes tumours is also used to kill tumours.

Hope this helps.

Not quite. When we say 'Light' we usually mean visible light. When we say "electro-magnetic radiation,' that includes visible light and some invisible forms of energy such as radio, infrared and x-rays.

All these are more are forms of electro-magnetic radiation. Not all of them are light.

It is invisible because our eyes can only detect a small range of electromagnetic radiation, the visible spectrum. Your skin can detect infrared radiation, which you feel as warmth from the sun, a fire or other form of heating, but your skin cannot detect visible radiation.

They use that term to reference deadly radiation that you have no way of knowing that you're being bombarded with. It's to reference that you may think you're safe but you may not actually be safe.

-
Your eyes are only capable of perceiving a certain frequency of the light spectrum.

But it really isn't invisible ... it's there.
