Are cats k-strategists

I know that k-strategists live long and don't have many offspring (humans, elephants, whales, etc.) but would cats count as a k-strategist? They don't live as long as the above animals and reproduce more...

Thanks!

Yes, cats are K strategists. They have strong parental care of a few altricial young (born naked, blind, and helpless) with low infant mortality. They can only do this if the environment remains constant and resources sufficient to rear the young. Cat are are niche resource specialists meaning they are usually highly adapted predators rather than generalists. r strategists are generalists that readily emigrate or disperse enormous broods to establish in new territories and are the first into disturbed habitats. Aphids are classic r strategist insects able to colonize new growth readily and quickly reach population density. Similarly rodents, among the mammals, mostly follow an r strategy. They reproduce quickly and rapidly reach the habitat's carrying capacity even though they have some K type strategy in parental care of altricial young.

Cats require stable climax habitats that let them commit small, annual investments in rearing young over, relatively, long life spans. Cats spend time teaching their young to hunt to increase the kitten's chances to reach a reproductive age.
