Koch used experiments to prove that the bacterium Bacillus anthracis was the cause of anthrax - the bacterium could be observed in the tissue of anthrax victims. He extracted this bacterium from a sheep which had died of anthrax, grew it and injected a mouse with it. The mouse developed the disease as well. Koch repeated this process over 20 generations of mice, before he announced in 1876 that he had proved this bacterium caused anthrax.......
What important fact about the cause of disease did Robert Koch establish?
Without which piece of familiar scientist equipment would Robert Koch not have been able to reach his conclusion?

Koch developed a new experimental method to test whether a particular micro-organism was the cause of a disease. Building on Pasteur's work on germ theory, Koch used experiments to prove that the bacterium Bacillus anthracis was the cause of anthrax - the bacterium could be observed in the tissue of anthrax victims. He extracted this bacterium from a sheep which had died of anthrax, grew it and injected a mouse with it. The mouse developed the disease as well. Koch repeated this process over 20 generations of mice, before he announced in 1876 that he had proved this bacterium caused anthrax.

Koch together with Friedrich Loeffler came up with Koch's postulates:
1.The microorganism must be found in abundance in all organisms suffering from the disease, but should not be found in healthy organisms.
2.The microorganism must be isolated from a diseased organism and grown in pure culture.
3.The cultured microorganism should cause disease when introduced into a healthy organism.
4The microorganism must be reisolated from the inoculated, diseased experimental host and identified as being identical to the original specific causative agent.

These are a useful guide only, Koch abandoned the universalist requirement of the first postulate altogether when he discovered asymptomatic carriers of various diseases.
They are not really applicable to viruses.

I would say that the piece of familiar equipment he needed would have been a microscope to observe the bacteria.

robert koch discovered cell, not the fact about any disease.

And who are the other 2 scientists?
