As of this week in June, 2012, the oldest living person is a retired schoolteacher in Georgia named Besse Cooper, who at the moment is nearly 116, and has thirty-two descendants, including a daughter, Nancy, that Besse had when she was 48. She attributes her longevity to avoiding junk food.
