What does evolution explain AND what does it NOT explain

as a possible abiogenesis theory. Species and life mean separate things and creationists and scientists alike seem to lump those definitions as one. I personally support only micro-evolution, but macro-evolution makes not sense to me. In high school, we learned that an organism isnt viable and is sterile if it has a chromosome number different that its parents of the same species.......
Specifically, macro-evolution. I need a clear, SOURCED answer to this question. I get that evolution is the biological change of species over time and creationism is where God is the Source of life, as a possible abiogenesis theory. Species and life mean separate things and creationists and scientists alike seem to lump those definitions as one. I personally support only micro-evolution, but macro-evolution makes not sense to me. In high school, we learned that an organism isn't viable and is sterile if it has a chromosome number different that its parents of the same species. Like humans always have 46 chromosomes. Humans supposedly share a common ancestor with chimpanzees. Chimpanzees have 48 chromosomes. How did humans or chimps gain or lose chromosomes? How can a new species be from the chromosome mutant one?

Please, DON'T give me any dogmatic religious AND/OR atheistic answers. Just neutral and non-biased, please. Evolution is a theory with new evidence supporting OR refuting our contemporary scientific model. However, the Bible, Koran, Torah, etc are historical journals that accounted for basic day to day life centuries ago. But for BOTH, mankind doesn't have ALL of the evidence to understand. The light gets brighter, meaning new evidence and interpretation will come forth. As for right now, please help?

The theory of evolution through natural selection explains why all different life forms can be placed into hierarchical categories (species, genus, family, order, etc.); i.e., why they all fit into a "web" of similar features rather than looking like completely separate spontaneous creations. It explains why some species have "useless" features that resemble the useful features of another species (like the finger bones in whales). It explains the observed fact (through the fossil record) that the set of life forms on earth has changed continuously and dramatically over the course of history, and why fossil species always bear resemblances to the species that historically preceded and followed them. It explains, for example, why you don't find trilobytes, dino
