I'm presuming it'll go a darker green with no sunlight (before it goes yellow and dies) am i wrong?

Yes...
the green in grass is chlorophyll (green pigments) which uses sunlight to produce food for the plant/grass. No sunlight = no food = white/yellow/brown grass = death.
