0 to 2.In this case, you moved 6 times to the left.2.......
How do I write the number 2318979. in scientific notation? Include an explanation? Thanks!

When writing in scientific notation, numbers can only range from 1 to 9.

Meaning you have to place your decimal point in which it makes the number greater than or equal to 1, or less than or equal to 9.

So in this case, you have to put the decimal point between the 2 and the 3.

Making it 2.318979

All you have to do now, is count how many decimal places you moved from the original 2318979.0 to 2.318979

In this case, you moved 6 times to the left. Which means it would be

2.318979 x 10^6
