b) In water, is H2NCH(CH3)2 a strong base, a weak base, not a base, or cannot be determined? Justify Your Choice.

The amine (isopropylamine) acts as a base because the N atom accepts a proton from H2O.

H2NCH(CH3)2 + H2O <==> +H3NCH(CH3)2 + OH-

Like all amines, the above is a weak base. All the strong bases are Group I and Group II metal hydroxides.

Because it is a weak base, it will produce only a small amount of OH- in water. Most of the isopropylamine will be present in the solution as the undissociated molecule.
