When it is fresh, silver chloride is a white solid, but on prolonged exposure to light it darkens. The supernatant liquid is clear and contains dissolved sodium nitrate.......

It is not a double decomposition. It is a double replacement or double substitution.

1. Supposing the two reactants are in solution: When they mix a precipitate of silver chloride results. When it is fresh, silver chloride is a white solid, but on prolonged exposure to light it darkens. The supernatant liquid is clear and contains dissolved sodium nitrate.

NaCl + AgNO3 = NaNO3 + AgCl
