Well, I was looking at the bond-types that are considered to be vibrational and can be used to determine functional groups.

Why are C-C bonds not considered in the sense they don't have absorption bands.

Generally the vibrations of the carbon chain are far too complex to be analysed fully but you would use them when you compare the fingerprint region with reference spectra.
