if you have a big hand and you are strong enough, you might be able to buy a new car.......
What is it used for and what does it do? What makes it unique and how much would a handful cost? 10 points for best answer :D

Pd is an elemental metal so it "does" the same things that all metals do, conduct electricity and is reasonably good at conducting heat. Pd does have a number of uses but mostly in alloyed form, alloyed with other metals. What makes it unique is it's chemistry and nuclear properties (same is true of every other element). One thing Pd is used for in an alloy formed into a small tube that is used as a filter to produce high purity H2 gas.

As far as price... it depends on how big your hand is and how strong you are. Pd is quite dense (like Pt) so it does not take much volume to make a troy ounce. Pd prices are typically up there in the neighborhood of Pt so, if you have a big hand and you are strong enough, you might be able to buy a new car.
