What are the moles of each element in NaCl

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-11-29] [Hit: ]
87 g NaCl (1 mole NaCl / 58.5 g NaCl)(1 mole Cl / 1 mole NaCl) = 0.......
with steps please .. Mass: 6.87g Molar mass: 58.5 moles of compound: 0.12

Now how do I find the moles of Na in NaCl?
How do I find the moles of Cl in NaCl?

Please help !!

Each mole of NaCl contains one mole Na+ and one mole Cl-. Since there are 0.12 moles NaCl , apparently , there are 0.12 moles of each of the elements. Here is the general way of solving this kind of problems:

6.87 g NaCl (1 mole NaCl / 58.5 g NaCl)(1 mole Na / 1 mole NaCl) = 0.12 moles Na
And,
6.87 g NaCl (1 mole NaCl / 58.5 g NaCl)(1 mole Cl / 1 mole NaCl) = 0.12 moles Cl

Good luck ;)
