When do afterschocks occur after an earthquake

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 11-08-24] [Hit: ]
Japan had 100s of aftershocks, and still have them. Technically 5.8 isnt that strong of a quake for most places, but the make up of the rocks, and plates I guess is what makes it bad for the east coast.......
We had a 5.9 earthquake today in Richmond, Virginia and i wanna know if there's gonna be an afterschock..

aftershocks almost always happen in the first 24 hours after an earthquake and after that can happen almost anytime. Look at the one in Japan back in March to see examples of how many aftershocks they had and the timing.

There already has been aftershocks, they were around 2.8. Japan had 100s of aftershocks, and still have them. Technically 5.8 isn't that strong of a quake for most places, but the make up of the rocks, and plates I guess is what makes it bad for the east coast.
