How exactly is electricity created and how can you conserve it

wind, hydro, oil, gas, nuclear, it is all converted in to mechanical energy,......
no matter the source of power, wind, hydro, oil, gas, nuclear, it is all converted in to mechanical energy, which is converted into magnetic energy, which is converted in to electrical energy.
chemical batteries, fuel cells, and solar voltaic cells use direct conversions.
the best way to conserve it. is to use a power strip with a on/off switch on it. and plug all your cell phones, battery charges even all your computer equipment in to them. and when not in use turn the power strip off. because even when not in use battery chargers, TVs with remote on/off controls are designed to supply constant power even at a very reduced rate. but they are still drawing power all the time that they are plugged in. so to make it easy, a power strip, then just turn off the strip. just by doing that simple thing will help reduce the amount used. and you will save money on the electric bill.

some will say electric cars. problem with just a few its not a problem, but multiply it by millions your just shifting the problem. and will cause a greater problem, current electrical grid can not handle 24 hour days at close to full power. the system is designed with reduced capacity at night. but electrical vehicles that do not relay on the electrical grid is a good start. and just one of many.
its not just one thing but many types that needs to be done.

"there are no wrong answers, just wrong questions that where or where not asked.
unintended consequences: questions that where not asked but accepted as truth on advice of experts. LCA"

Electricity is created by moving magnets near coils of wire. That's really all there is to an electric generator. You move a magnet, to create a changing magnetic field. An electric current is thus induced in the coil.

The only differences in power plants are the manner in which they keep the magnets moving. A coal power plant burns coal to heat water, which becomes steam, which goes through a steam turbine, which turns the magnets.

A nuclear power plant goes like this: hot reactor core --> water --> steam --> turbine --> magnets.

A hydroelectric plant goes like this: Water --> turbine --> magnets.

It is normally created by Dynamos, exploiting electromagnetics, (turning rotational mechanical energy into electrical energy (power)).
There are other means such as Solar (photo-voltaic), Nuclear Battery (nuclear waste painted on a PN junction, invented by David Sarnoff),.... but these are in their infancy and strictly small scale.
Conservation ie Storage may be done in Capacitors or Batteries (storage as electrical Charge or as Chemical Energy). Indirect storage may be Cheaper (en masse), eg Pumping Water Uphill, Potential Energy Storage. All conversions have an Efficiency penalty (Energy is lost).
