..OR...btw,......
I am lost can someone help me out.

One number is four more than another.
The product of the numbers is 4 more than the smaller.
Find the two numbers.

-
Smaller number = x
Larger number = x + 4

x(x + 4) = x + 4

x² + 4x = x + 4

x² + 3x - 4 = 0

(x - 1)(x + 4) = 0

x = 1 and x = -4

There are two sets of answers:

Smaller number = x = 1
Larger number = x + 4 = 5

...OR...

Smaller number = x = -4
Larger number = x + 4 = 0

--------------------------------------…

You have 2 numbers: x and (x+4)
x(x+4) = x+4

Divide both sides by (x+4)
x = 1

Numbers are 1 and 5

btw, brieanee copied me

-
I am just taking a shot in the dark here. But I ended up with 1 and 5.

Because the difference between 1 and 5 is 4.

And 5*1=5

5 is 4 more than 1, which was your other number.

small number is 1 and the big number is 5, 5x1 = 5, 5-4 is one, the smaller number :)

-
n*(n + 4)=4+n
n^2+4n-n-4=0
n^2 + 3n - 4 = 0
(n + 4)*(n - 1) = 0
n = -4 and n = 1

-4 and 0
1 and 5
