How to solve 5 and 2/6 - 4 and 5/6

Since 2/6 is smaller than 5/6, we borrow 1 from 5. Then 5 becomes 4 and

1 + 2/6
= 6/6 + 2/6 = 8/6

So 5 and 2/6 = 4 and 8/6

Thus

5 2/6 - 4 5/6
= 4 8/6 - 4 5/6 [whole number 4's cancel out since 4 - 4 = 0]
= 3/6
= 1/2

1 is equivalent to 6 / 6.
