18, 21,8: 8, 16,The LCD is 24.Change 37/24 into mixed number.......
You probably have seen my post about these mathematic questions? But I dont understand. And if you can explain and answer the question to me, please :)

Multiple Choice answer :
A. 1 13/24
B. 9/11
C. 3/8
D. None of the above

I really don't want you to just give me the answer because I want to be able to understand it in the future, so explain as well! THANK YOU SOO MUCH

2/3+7/8

First find the LCD of 3 and 8.

3: 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24
8: 8, 16, 24

The LCD is 24.

=2/3 + 7/8

=16/24 + 21/24

= 37/24

Change 37/24 into mixed number.

37/24 = 1 13/24

Answer: A

you must first understand the basic principle for addition of fractions.
You can only add them when they have a common denominator.

We can see the denominators 3 and 8 have the LOWEST COMMON denominator 24. (3x8 = 24)

therefore we have to change the numerator (top number of fraction) since we changed the denominator.
We look at the first fraction: 2/3 and ask ourselves: what times 3 equals 24? the answer is 8
so we times the numerator by 8 which is 16. now we have our new fraction 16/24

we look at the second fraction: 7/8 and ask : what times 8 equals 24? the answer is 3
so we times the numerator by 3 which equals 21. now we have our new fraction 21/24

since both fractions have a common denomitor (24) we can now plus it out:

16/24 + 21/24 = 37/24

which is simplified to be 1 13/24 (a)

You have to find the least common denominator which means that what both numbers go into. In this case it would be 24. Since 8x3 is 24 then you would take 7x3 and it would be 21/24 and then you would do the same with 2/3 which would be 16/24 add those together and you probably have to make it a mixed number

Find the shared LCD of each fraction.

3x8 = 24.
7x3 = 21 =21/24
2x8 = 16 = 16/24

= 37/24
= 1 13/24
