How to solve systems of equations

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-02-03] [Hit: ]
Finally, take the value of x and plug it into your original second equation to find the value of y.......
Solve this system
[ y=x^2-3x-8
[ y= x + 4

Im not looking for the answer, as I already have it, I need to understand the concept of HOW to do this type of problem.
*The answer should be in coordinate form.

Basically, you take one equation and plug it into the other. So if you take the second equation and plug it in for every "y" in the first one, you get x+4=x^2-3x-8
Then you solve for x.
Finally, take the value of x and plug it into your original second equation to find the value of y.
