The area of an island on a map is 30 cm^2 .the scale used on the map is 1:100000
i)Calculate the area in square kilometres of the real island.
ii)An airport on the island on a rectangular piece of land measuring 3km and 2km. Calculate the area of the airport on the map in cm^2

scale is 1:100000,that is 1 cm =100000 cm or 1000 m = 1 km.
1 cm x 1 cm = 1 cm^2
1 cm^2 = 1 km^2
30 cm^2 = 30 km^2

3km x 2km = 6.0 km^2
3*100000 cm x 2*100000 cm
3 x 2 = 6 cm^2,using the same scale as above.
