Why does a sine wave oscillate

I know that Voltage can be a square wave, sin wave, or DC (no oscillation), but what exactly makes an input signal from say a signal source oscillate?is it because of the magnetic fields created by current flowing? Im not sure-Oscillation is caused by the interaction between a capacitor and an inductor.......
I am studying the fundamentals of electrical engineering and no google answer has thus far been sufficient to me, so if you could help me out, then I would much appreciate it. Oscillation is caused by the interaction between a capacitor and an inductor. Given the right circumstances, they resonate. It is very much like the interaction between kinetic energy and potential energy in a spring system. The capacitor is similar to the spring (which stores P.E.) and the inductor is similar to the mass (which stores K.E.).
