What's the easiest way of solving -log of 0.035

Salman Khan solves it using a calculator. I'd like to do it "by hand".

*His 0.0324 is my 0.035, I've just rounded it off.

log[0.0324] = log[(3.24)*10^-2] = -2 + log(3.24) [from tables log(3.24) = 0.5105]. So
log[0.0324] = -2+0.5105 = -1.4895
