A radioactive substance has a decay rate of 4.7% per day. What is its half-life

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-04-18] [Hit: ]
953^t ,t = ln 0.5 / ln 0.953 = 14.398 days -Youre trying to see how many days it would take for the substance to be 50% decayed.4.......
please show work, thanks!

-
the decay is exponential. since decay rate is given as 4.7% PER DAY,
the appropriate formula is fraction remaing, f = 0.953^t
for half-life, 0.5 = 0.953^t ,
t = ln 0.5 / ln 0.953 = 14.398 days <------

You're trying to see how many days it would take for the substance to be 50% decayed. so:

4.7(x) = 50
x = 50/4.7
x= 10.64 days

-
In 50/4.7 days one-half will be gone -- 10.64 days
