Share $180 among Tom, Frank and Mary so that each of the boys receives twice as much as Mary.

So we'll call Mary's share X.

Tom gets 2X, Frank gets 2X, and Mary gets X. Add them all up, and we have to get to $180.00.

So 2X + 2X + X =180

5X = 180

X = $36.

So Mary gets $36, Tom gets $72, and Frank gets $72. Mary gets 1/5 of the total.

Tom's Share = 2 * Mary's share
Frank's Share = 2 * Mary's share

So...

Total = 2 * Mary's share + 2 * Mary's share + Mary's share
= 5 * Mary's share

180 = 5 * Mary's share

Mary's share = 180/5
Mary's share = $36

Tom and Frank both get: $36 * 2 = $72


Mary's share is 1/5 of the total amount.
36/180
