222C) ----> a = 4.however this is wrong!please help me out and explain what im doing wrong/show whats right ?? thanks :)-Your mistake seems to be using the 32.222 number,......
THANK YOU in advance =]

A pipe of length 10.0 m increases in length by 1.5 cm when its temperature is increased by 90
°F. What is its coefficient of linear expansion?

ok so this is what i did: i converted everything to m and degrees C and then plugged it into the formula deltaL=aLodeltaT
where delta L = change in length, a = coefficient, Lo=original length, and delta T = change in temp.

0.015m=a(10m)(32.222C) ----> a = 4.65E-5 / C

however this is wrong! the correct answer is apparently 30E-6 / C

please help me out and explain what im doing wrong/show whats right ?? thanks :)

Your mistake seems to be using the "32.222" number, I don't know how you got that. There are 180 degrees farenheight to every 100 degrees celcius. So an increase by 90 degrees F is an increase of 50 degrees celcius:

(90 F) (100 C / 180 F) = 50 C.

Then 0.015 = a(10)(50) ====> a = 30 x 10^{-6}
