6+7*4-2*8=118 and 208

[From: ] [author: ] [Date: 12-08-13] [Hit: ]
208-your supposed to do what in parentheses first then exponentans then multiplication and division then addition and subtraction and all from left to right. so 6+7*4-2*8 turns into 6+28-16 to 18. if u just did left to right you would get 200 idk where u got 118 or 208 from.-Order of operations. PEMDAS I call it. Parenthesis,......
How do I work this out?

-
I can make it equal 182

6 + [(7 * 4) - 2] * 8
6 + [24 - 2] * 8
6 + 22 * 8
6 + 176
182

One clue is that 118/8 is not an integer, but (118 - 6)/8 is

6 + [7 * (4 - 2) * 8]
6 + (7 * 2 * 8)
6 + 112
118

(208 - 6) / 8 is not an integer, so that trick won't work.
208/8 = 26

Got it!

(6 + 7) * (4 - 2) * 8
13 * 2 * 8
208

Order of operations. PEMDAS I call it. Parenthesis, exponents, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction. Do your equations in that order. Multiplication first so 7*4 = 28 and 2*8 = 16. 6 + 28 - 16. Your answer would be 18

P- peryenthisis [sorry can't spell]
E- exponents
M- Multiplication
D- division
A- Addition
S- Subtraction

These are the steps in order

18 is your answer
[best answer maybe?]

Order of operations: P.E.M.D.A.S or G.E.M.S.

-
Note the order of doing the sums ........
first ....... powers
then ....... multiplication/division
then ....... addition/subtraction
.....................
keep the sums within the parenthesis, bracket etc within it until you solve them to single value

6+7*4-2*8,
6+28-16,
34-16=18.
Answer: 18.

-
Its 18 bud. Order of operations. multiply first. then add, then subtract

-
