I don't understand these math problems

Jen drives quickly at 42mph but Nicole gets caught in traffic and averages only 30mph. At what time are they 81 miles apart?(wouldnt it be 42t + 30(t+90)= 81?)-let me start with the second one, you are on the right track, but instead of (t+90) it should be (t+1,......
I don't necessarily want the answer; just the set up.

1. Faucet A fills a 36 gallon tub at a rate of 6 gallons/min and Faucet B does the same job at a rate of 4 gallons/minute. If the water drains from the tub at a rate of 2 gallon/minute, and both faucets are turned on, will the tub fill completely? If yes, how long will it take?

2. Jen leaves the house at 6:30am and Nicole leaves at 8:00am driving in opposite directions. Jen drives quickly at 42mph but Nicole gets caught in traffic and averages only 30mph. At what time are they 81 miles apart?

(wouldn't it be 42t + 30(t+90)= 81?)

let me start with the second one, you are on the right track, but instead of (t+90) it should be (t+1,5) since the speed is in mph and you want your time (t) in hours, otherwise you'll have to recalculate your speeds to miles per minute.

the first 1 is really easy, you have to do it the same way as your second question but now t will be in minutes. if you turn it into a formula you'll get:
6t + 4t - 2t = 36
=> 8t = 36
now just calculate t

6GPM+4GPM-2GPM=36/rate =time
