The average of three consecutive odd numbers is -3. Find the largest number.

-
the average would be the middle
(?),-3,(?)

three consecutive odd numbers:
(-5),-3,(-1)

soory,
largest number would be -1

-
The numbers are -5, -3 and -1

The largest is -1

If you REALLY need an equation:

Let the numbers be "x - 4", "x - 2" and "x". (Note that the largest of the three is "x". Check for "oddness" at the end.)

Average = ((x - 4) + (x - 2) + x)/3
              = (3x - 6)/3
              = 3(x - 2)/3
              = x - 2

The average is -3, so:
       x - 2 = -3

Therefore x = -1
