Mr.Mukherjee say: 3/4 * 230 = 3 / 4 * 115*2 = 3*115*2 x 1 / 2*2 = 3/ 2 * 115 = 345 / 2 = 172 1/2

MICHAEL K say: 57.5 x 3 = 172.5.
-
Shub Vashistha say: 345/2=172.5
-
D.W. say: "of" means "times"
¾ of 230 = ¾ × 230
= 3/2 × 115
= 345/2

J say: Method one: divide 230 by 4 and multiply that answer by 3.
Method two: multiply 3 times 230 and divide that answer by 4.
Method three: multiply 230 by 0.75 on calculator (or without).

All three methods are correct and give equal answers.

Fractions can be reduced by dividing top and bottom by the same number, for example 230/4 can be reduced to 115/2 by dividing numerator and denominator both by 2.

Paul say: 3/4 of 230 = 3/4 * 230/1 = (3*230)/(4*1) = 690/4

690 = 3 * 230 = 3* 2 * 115 = 3*2*5*23
4 = 2*2
The only common factor is 2 so dividing top and bottom by 2 we get

345/2 as an improper fraction or 172 ½ as a mixed number.
