Ian H say: Factors and multiples are different things. Examples will help.

Factors of a number are smaller numbers which multiplied give the number.
420 has factors 2^2*3*4*7

Multiples of a number are the result of multiplying that number by an integer
2*7 = 14
3*7 = 21
4*7 = 28
5*7 = 35
So, 14, 21, 28, 35, and so on are multiples of 7

Those ideas can extend into algebra.
The cubic x^3 + x^2 -2x has factors x*(x – 1)*(x + 2)

Multiples of x are values like x^2, x^3, x^4 and so on.

J say: The factors of 100 are the things (positive integers) that divide into it evenly: 2, 4, 5, 25, 10, 20, 50
The multiples of 100 are 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, ...

Billy say: They go in opposite directions.

* 10 is a multiple of 5.

* 5 is a factor of 10.

So, for example, if you multiply 5 by another number, what you get is a "multiple" of five. If you can divide a number by 5, then five is a "factor" of that number.
