If the zopiclone is doing nothing at all and you don't feel anything from it, knock yourself out (no pun intended), and take the diazepam.

I'm guessing you're in Canada or the UK, because here in the US we dont have zopiclone, but we do have something called eszopiclone (generic of Lunesta), and it's a mild sleep aid compared to some others like Ambien (zolpidem).

If the zopiclone is doing nothing, I would talk to your doctor if I were you and get switched to something more effective. I'm a big guy, and Ambien knocks me on my a$$ in about 45 minutes to an hour. However, several people report doing very strange things while on Ambien such as sleep walking, eating a ton of food with no memory of it the next day, among other things.

Diazepam, which you have, has an off-label indication for insomnia. So it should help you. I've heard from many patients that temazepam, a benzodiazepine like diazepam, is very effective in inducing sleep, while causing little to no next-day residual drowsiness. These are just some options you can talk to your physician about next time you see him.
