Should religion really be counted as a Paranormal belief

well we then get back to the argument of what is normal (atheism) or belief???.I think by doing these catagories we are just harming people sentiments. What are your thoughts?......
I was revising for my psychology exam and came under functions for paranormal belief and there is a sub section of cultural significance.

Well would for example a Hindu seeing an avatar of Vishnu or a Christian seeing Jesus count as a paranormal or anomolous experience

I mean the definition for Anomalous is something which deviates from normal, well we then get back to the argument of what is normal (atheism) or belief???.

I think by doing these catagories we are just harming people sentiments.

What are your thoughts?

I personally don't think religion should be counted as paranormal. Religion is based on faith, the paranormal by belief. Paranormal believers believe through experiences, religious people have trust and confidence to go on.

I agree with harming people's sentiments with the categories.

Yes, of course it's a paranormal belief. It's a belief in a deity with magic powers despite no evidence for said deity's existence.

It is a paranormal belief.

Can our conscious reality and perception of the world be paranormal belief? I think so... you can't prove a world outside your mind exists...

-
No. In many cases paranormal beliefs would fall under the category of religion, but religion would not fall under the category of paranormal. However, many religious beliefs, such as the examples you gave, or things like talking in tongues, religious epiphanies, and such could certainly be classified as paranormal (although some people might get offended by this).

I am not sure if I am making sense here, so let me try to simplify this.

Seeing an avatar or Jesus, or Mary would be paranormal. Its an experience or event.
A given religion is not paranormal because its a set of real (although not necessarily true) beliefs, doctrines, and practices and it is not necessary for anything mysterious or magical to happen. For example, someone can believe in God, the Bible, and attend church without speaking in tongues or seeing the Virgin Mary in their breakfast toast.

Am I wrong? Maybe.... I dont know.
