Can a single acceleration cancel out the effects of gravity everywhere

I know it can't, so how can the equivalence principle be true?

It is called FREE FALL.


Just have your immediate environment fall due to gravity alone. Internal to it, there will seem to be no effect of gravity.


Of course we know this is a stupid idea (without proper planning), because here on Earth we know we will crash in to Earth trying to do this.
